Health Alert: Romania, Military Order 7, Suspension of Additional Commercial Flights

Location:  Romania

Event:

Military Ordinance 7 remains in effect. Commercial flights to and from Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, the U.S., the U.K. and Northern Ireland, the Netherlands, Turkey, and Iran are suspended.  This is in addition to the earlier suspension of commercial flights to and from Italy, Spain, Germany, and France which has been extended until April 22.  Ground transportation to and from most of these same countries has also been suspended.

U.S. citizens who wish to return to the United States should make commercial arrangements immediately unless they are prepared to remain abroad for an indefinite period.  Some international flight options may still be available, and interested parties should contact the airline company directly and review the Otopeni “Henri Coanda” International Airport website for a schedule of departing flights. The U.S. government does not anticipate arranging repatriation flights in Romania at this time.

Yesterday, President Iohannis announced plans to extend the state of emergency for another month, from April 16 to May 16. The government is developing proposals that will be included in the presidential decree.

Romanian authorities urged everybody to wear masks outside their houses and offices. The recommendation cannot yet be made mandatory as the GOR cannot currently provide masks for all Romanian citizens.

U.S. citizens who remain in Romania are reminded to utilize the Ministry of Interior’s personal and employment declaration forms when traveling outside of the home.  Both forms, as well as the latest information about military ordinances, may be found on the Ministry of Interior’s websitehere.

The U.S. Department of State maintains a Global Level 4 Health Advisory: Do Not Travel.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 3 Travel Notice for Romania as well as a Global Level 3 Travel Notice.
