Event:  U.S. citizens seeking to return to the United States should arrange for their immediate return while commercial departure options remain available.  Otherwise, U.S. citizens who live abroad should avoid all international travel.  If your travel has been disrupted, please contact your airline directly.

Many airlines have cancelled or significantly reduced international flights.  TAROM suspended flights to and from Istanbul, and both KLM and the Lufthansa Group have suspended flights into and out of Bucharest.  Some flights out of Bucharest remain available through TAROM, Wizz Air, and British Airways.

On March 30, 2020, the Government of Romania issued two new Military Ordinances limiting movement and travel options for persons in-country.  Military Ordinance Number 5 extends the suspension of flights to and from Spain and Italy and imposes criminal liabilities and fines for those who do not comply with quarantine and home isolation requirements.  Military Ordinance Number 6 imposes quarantine measures for the county of Suceava and surrounding areas, including limitations on transportation into and out of the region.  Information about these and other ordinances may be found on the Ministry of Interior’s website here.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 3 Travel Notice for Romania as well as a Global Level 3 Travel Notice.
