Health Alert: Argentina, Updated Information on Counter COVID-19 Measures and Repatriation Flights

Location:  Argentina 

 

Event:  The Government of the City of Buenos Aires has made wearing face masks or face coverings mandatory in all public spaces. As of May 4you may receive fines between AR$10,000 and AR$79,000 for failure to comply if you are caught without one. Requirements for the use of face coverings in cars and trains is also required in all areas of national jurisdiction and throughout the provinces. When in doubt, wear one – to stop the spread and avoid fines.  

 

The Argentine Government suspended ticket sales for commercial flights scheduled to depart before September 1 and extended the quarantine through May 10. Limited quarantine exemptions include movement to obtain food and medical care and travel to the international airport for ticketed passengers. The government may extend the quarantine past May 10. More information can be found on the Ministry of Health’s website.   

 

Only sporadic and specially approved international flight options currently exist in Argentina. The Embassy continues to engage with the Argentine government regarding future flights and will communicate any information as soon as it is available.  The U.S. government cannot guarantee the continuation of direct-sale charter repatriation flights from Argentina 

  

If you purchased a flight on Eastern Airlines for FridayMay 8, and have not done so already, email buenosaires-acs@state.gov with the following information to facilitate your movement to Ministro Pistarini International Airport (Ezeiza). The subject line of your e-mail should read “Overland Travel Itinerary.” 

 

  • Place of origin 

  • Make and model of vehicle 

  • License plate number 

  • Name of driver (and DNI if Argentine citizen) 

  • Name of each passenger and passport number 

  • Route to Buenos Aires (if you are traveling from the provinces) 

  • Hotel Reservation in Buenos Aires (if you are staying overnight after traveling from the provinces)
