Health Alert: Guinea, Ministry of Health Activates COVID-19 Hotline and Implements Enhanced Screening and Quarantine Measures

Country-Specific Information:

- Guinea has confirmed twenty-two cases of COVID-19 within its borders since March 12, 2020.
- Several confirmed cases were community transmissions rather than imported.

- The Guinean Ministry of Health has activated a COVID-19 hotline-just dial 115 from any phone in Guinea.
- The government of Guinea has implemented enhanced screening and quarantine measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and declared a Health State of Emergency through April 10.
- A curfew has been imposed between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.
- Movement is limited to work, shopping for necessities, medical care, purchasing medicine or medical supplies,  and emergency situations only.
- The Govt of Guinea has closed all land borders.

- Mosques, churches, educational institutions, bars, cinemas, and other service industry businesses are ordered closed.
- Any assembly is limited to 20 persons, and various passenger number limitations were also enacted for different types of vehicles.  
- Effective Monday, March 23, 2020 the U.S. Embassy is operating with emergency staff only.
- All consular section appointments for visa and American Citizen Services have been cancelled until further notice.
- U.S. citizens must register in STEP to receive up-to-date information from the U.S. Embassy.

Entry and Exit Requirements:

- Air travel to or from Guinea was suspended effective 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2020.
- Conakry Gbessia International Airport is closed to all commercial travelers through at least mid-April.

- The U.S. Embassy in Guinea is continuing to search for options for U.S. citizens to depart Guinea.  Any information we develop on any option will be disseminated via STEP.  All U.S. citizens should insure they are registered on STEP.

Quarantine Information:

Suspected cases of COVID-19 will be sent to a Ministry of Health center for testing and will be required to remain at the center until test results are available, in approximately 10 hours.
Negative cases will be required to report their temperature to Ministry of Health officials twice a day for fourteen days.
Positive cases will be treated at the Ministry of Health center.
There are four laboratories in Guinea that can test for COVID19.
