Health Alert: U.S. Embassy Kingston, Jamaica (April 15, 2020)

Event: Please see several updates regarding the response to the COVID-19 pandemic in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.

 

Cayman Islands

U.S. Embassy Kingston has been informed that the Government of Cayman Islands is arranging flights from Grand Cayman to Miami on Friday, April 17, 2020. We encourage U.S. Citizens who wish to depart on these flights to contact Cayman Airways directly at +1 (345) 949-2311 for more information and booking options.

 

Jamaica

The Ministry of Health and Wellness of Jamaica has confirmed 125 cases of COVID-19 in Jamaica.

·        Lockdown of St. Catherine Parish: On April 14th, the Government of Jamaica instituted a total lockdown of the parish of St. Catherine, beginning April 15th at 5:00 A.M. until April 22 at 5:00 A.M. During the period of the lock-down in St. Catherine, two days, Wednesday April 15th and Saturday April 18th, will be designated to pursue essential activities. For those under 65 years old, on Wednesday and Saturday, between 10:00 A.M. and 1:30 P.M., persons with surnames A-M, preferably one person per household, with ID, may pursue the essentials of life. Surnames N-Z, between 1:30 and 5:00 P.M. may pursue essential business. Those in public spaces in St Catherine during the period of the lock-down must wear a mask covering the nose and mouth. See the full update from Prime Minister Holness here.

·        Extended curfew: On April 8th, 2020, the Government of Jamaica extended the curfew order in place island wide. The new curfew order states that a curfew is in place from 9:00 P.M. until 5:00 A.M.

·        Limited flight availability: As of this message, JetBlue still has flights scheduled for April 18th and April 25th departing from both Montego Bay and Kingston. There are currently no seats available on the flight from Kingston on April 18thAll other airlines have suspended service to Jamaica. U.S. Citizens seeking to return to the United States are urged to make travel arrangements now while commercial options are available.
