Demonstration Alert: Italy, Violence Reported at Anti-Government and Anarchist Groups Protests

Location:

Trastevere, Rome (specifically in Piazza Trilussa), Milan and throughout Italy

Event:

Anti-government and anarchist groups are demonstrating to protest the incarceration of a prominent Italian anarchist. These demonstrations are often unsanctioned and may occur with little or no notice.  Several protests have resulted in violence, including the use of firebombs (Molotov cocktails), and pipe and package bombs.

Italian police advise of an elevated threat to Italian Government institutions, most notably the Quirinale Presidential Palace and the Judicial Palace.  U.S. citizens are advised to exercise caution around these locations and to be alert to the possibility of demonstrations.

Action to take:

·        Monitor local media for updates.

·        Avoid crowds

·        Avoid demonstration.

·        Keep a low profile.

·        Notify friends and family of your safety.

·        Be aware of your surroundings.

·        Review your personal security plans.

·        Carry proper identification, including copies of a U.S. passport with a current Italian visa.
