Demonstration Alert: La Paz (Bolivia), Demonstrations Expected to Disrupt Movement and Chance for Confrontations

Demonstration Alert - U.S. Embassy La Paz, Bolivia-September 23, 2024

Locations:  Multiple locations in La Paz, including Plaza Murillo and Plaza Avaroa (the area of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) headquarters); demonstration locations are subject to change without advance notice

Event: Demonstrations and counter-demonstrations are being held in various locations in the city of La Paz beginning Monday, September 23, 2024.  These demonstrations are in addition to demonstrations and roadblocks around La Paz which began on September 16, 2024.  These demonstrations and roadblocks have the potential to disrupt the normal flow of vehicles and goods.  There is a possibility of increased confrontations between demonstrators and police at the demonstration and blockade points. 
Actions to Take:  

  • Avoid the areas of demonstrations and blockades. 
  • Exercise caution in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
  • Ensure you have an adequate supply of food, water, and fuel for several days or more. 
  • Monitor local media for updates.
