Weather Alert
Heightened Flooding Risk along Saigon River due to High Tide Conditions and Typhoon Kalmaegi Rains
U.S. Mission Vietnam
(November 6, 2025)
Location: Throughout southern Vietnam, especially in regions along the Saigon River affected by increased rainfall from Typhoon Kalmaegi
The areas around the Saigon River, especially Ho Chi Minh City, face heightened risk of flooding due to the unusually high tides and increased rainfall from Typhoon Kalmaegi, according to Vietnamese authorities. The U.S. Consulate General urges U.S. citizens to exercise caution when moving about the city, especially in low-lying areas, areas prone to flooding, and areas that may be inundated by tidal waters. Follow directions of local authorities regarding detours and safe travel.
The Vietnamese National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF) predicts that Kalmaegi will reach peak intensity on Thursday, November 6, before it moves inland, especially across Quang Ngai and Dak Lak provinces. Authorities estimate the increased rain from Kalmaegi will bring at least 10cm/4in of rainfall to the Ho Chi Minh City area as well.
U.S. Consulate General officials in Ho Chi Minh City have been in contact with local authorities, who confirm that they are assisting residents and visitors in affected areas. If you require immediate assistance, please contact the following:
