Demonstration Alert: Montevideo (Uruguay); August 3

Location:  Announced gathering points include, but are not limited to, the following locations in Montevideo, Uruguay:

  • U.S. Embassy Montevideo, Dr. Lauro Müller 1776
  • Plaza Independencia

 

Event:  A demonstration is expected to take place on Saturday, August 3, 2024, beginning at 16:00 in front of the U.S. Embassy in Montevideo, Dr. Lauro Müller 1776.  A second demonstration is expected to take place beginning at 18:00 at Plaza Independencia in Montevideo.  Both demonstrations are in response to the recent elections in Venezuela.  Police expect as many as 200 people to attend the demonstration in front of the U.S. Embassy.  Both demonstrations are expected to be peaceful, but out of an abundance of caution, U.S. government personnel and U.S. citizens are advised to avoid the U.S. Embassy in Montevideo and Plaza Independencia during the hours of the demonstrations.

 

Actions to Take: 

  • Avoid the areas where the demonstrationsare taking place.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
  • Monitor local media for updates.
  • Keep a low profile.
