Location: Abu Dhabi
Event: There are reports of a possible missile or drone strike having occurred over Abu Dhabi, UAE today February 9, 2022. The Embassy advises U.S. citizens to immediately follow the safety actions listed below and stay alert in case of additional future attacks.
Actions to Take:
· If you hear a loud explosion, immediately seek cover.
· If in a home or a building, go to the lowest level of the structure with the fewest exterior walls, windows, and openings; close any doors and sit near an interior wall, away from any windows or openings.
· If you are outdoors, immediately seek cover in a hardened structure; if that is not possible, lie down and cover your head with your hands.
· Be aware that even if the incoming missile or drone is intercepted, falling debris represents a significant risk.
· After the attack, stay away from any debris, and monitor major news outlets for official guidance.
After the Incident:
· If you are in need of urgent medical care and/or an immediate police response, call the local emergency number for UAE (Police – 999, Ambulance – 998, Civil Defense/Fire – 997).
· Account for the whereabouts and safety of family members and inform loved ones that you are safe.
· Do NOT approach missile debris or fragments under any circumstances. Instead, immediately move away from the object(s) to a safe location. Fumes from hot or burning missiles can be harmful or fatal. Some missile parts may still have corrosive fuel or unexploded ordnance.
· Monitor major news outlets, official information sources such as the Emirates Media Agency (WAM) for official government statements; Ministry of Defense (MoD), Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC), and Ministry of Interior (MoI) news feeds as relevant; as well as the Mission’s Twitter feeds (@USAinUAE), website, and the UAE Travel Advisory for updates and information. Keep in mind
that initial media reporting, and especially social media commentary, may be inaccurate.
