Security Alert: Ukraine, Russian Air Attack Threat Persists

Security Alert: U.S. Embassy Kyiv, Ukraine (March 30, 2024)
Location: Ukraine (countrywide)

Event: Recent Russian air attacks across Ukraine, including daytime attacks with surface-to-surface hypersonic missiles, underscore the potential for sudden shifts in Russian tactics and the capability of some Russian weapon systems to reach Ukrainian cities only a few minutes following launch. We remind all U.S. citizens to be vigilant of their personal safety and to take immediate shelter upon hearing an air alert or explosion.

Information on potential attacks is often widely available on open-source channels and mobile applications, including Telegram channels dedicated to reporting threat information. The U.S. Embassy does not have the ability to provide real-time alerts to the general U.S. citizen community of air threats.

Actions to Take:

  • Monitor local media for updates.
  • Keep reserves of water, food, and medication.
  • Identify shelter locations in advance of any air alert.
  • Download a reliable air alert app to your mobile, such as Air Raid Siren or Alarm Map.
  • Immediately take shelter if an air alert is announced.
  • Follow the directions of Ukrainian officials and first responders in the event of an emergency.
  • Review what the Department of State Can and Cannot Do in a Crisis.
