Security Alert – U.S. Embassy Kampala, Uganda July 16, 2025
Event: The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) will hold primary elections on July 17, 2025, to elect the party’s Member of Parliament (MP) candidates. NRM will conduct its primary races by having voters physically line up behind the candidate of their choice at 72,000 village level polling sites, which are mostly located in public areas such as schools, churches, mosques, and community centers. Campaigning, polling, declaration of results, and disputes over results have been known to trigger violence.
U.S. government personnel have been advised to return home by 6:00pm on July 17, 2025, ahead of election results announcements.

- Avoid polling sites and other public areas involved in election administration.
- Monitor local media for updates.
- Avoid crowds.
- Avoid demonstrations.
- Notify friends and family of your safety.
- Be aware of your surroundings.
