Health Alert: Uganda, MOH Declares Sudan Ebola Outbreak

Health Alert – U. S. Embassy Kampala, Uganda (February 3, 2025) 

Location: Uganda – Kampala, Wakiso and Mbale Districts

Event: The Ugandan Ministry of Health (MOH) declared an outbreak of Sudan Ebola virus disease (SUDV) on January 30, with one death confirmed in Kampala and contact tracing underway in Wakiso District and Mbale District.

On February 3, the CDC issued a Level 1 (Practice Usual Precautions) Travel Notice for Ebola in Uganda.

Actions to Take:

• Visit the CDC Ebola page for more information.
• Avoid contact with sick people who are showing symptoms.
• Avoid touching body fluids (blood, sweat, vomit, etc.) from an infected person.
• Avoid touching infected animals (including bats and primates) or their body fluids.
• Check with your travel insurance provider for options should you fall ill while in Uganda.
