Security Alert: Kampala (Uganda), Road Closures Expected September 23 and 24

Security Alert – U.S. Embassy Kampala, Uganda (September 22, 2025)

Location: Multiple sites in Kampala, Uganda, including

·       Independence Park in Kololo,

·       Katwe Grounds,

·       Parts of Wakiso District, including Lweza-Lubowa area, along the Old Entebbe road leading to Entebbe Airport,

·       Kaala PlayGround in Nateete.

 

Event: The Ugandan Electoral Commission is holding nominations for Presidential Candidates on September 23 and 24, 2025. There will be rolling road closures throughout Kampala on these two days, as well as check points, barriers, and increased police and security presence to manage crowds.

 

Actions to Take: Be alert in the above-mentioned areas.

·       Monitor local media for updates.

·       Avoid crowds.

·       Avoid demonstrations.

·       Keep a low profile.

·       Notify friends and family of your safety.

·       Be aware of your surroundings.

·       Review your personal security plans.

·       Carry proper identification, including a U.S. passport with a current Ugandan visa.
