Security Alert: Jinja (Uganda), U.S. Citizens Advised Not to Attend Nyege Nyege Festival Due to Security Concerns

Event:  The U.S. Embassy is directing its staff to not attend the Nyege Nyege festival in Jinja from November 9-12, 2023.  Due to security concerns, we advise U.S. citizens not attend the festival.  U.S. citizens should also read our most recent Security Alert from November 6.

U.S. citizens should:

  • Stay alert in locations frequented by tourists.
  • Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive information and alerts and make it easier to locate you in an emergency overseas.
  • Follow the Department of State on Facebook and Twitter and visit travel.state.gov.
