Security Alert: Kampala (Uganda)

The Embassy continues to monitor security threats in Uganda, and as we approach the holiday season, we remind American citizens to exercise increased caution in public areas including markets, shopping malls, schools, hospitals, and areas frequented by tourists, particularly in major cities such as Kampala and in areas along the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo.   

U.S. citizens should: 

• Remain alert and avoid large public gathering places. 

• Keep a low profile. 

• Be aware of your surroundings. 

• Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive Alerts and make it easier to locate you in an emergency.
