Demonstration Alert: Türkiye, Several Large Protests Expected October 6

Location: Ankara, Istanbul, Adana 

 

Event:  October 6, 2024, at 1:30 p.m., an organized demonstration involving as many as one hundred thousand participants is expected to march from Kurtulus Park to Anatolia Square in Ankara.   

 

October 6, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., an organized demonstration involving possibly tens of thousands of participants is expected at Uskudar Square in Istanbul. 

 

October 6, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., a large, organized demonstration is expected at 5 Ocak Square and Inonu Park in Adana. 

 

Other demonstrations are likely to occur around the anniversary of the October 7, 2023, Hamas terrorist attack.  As noted in prior messages, large gatherings may result in enhanced police presence, road closures, and traffic disruptions.  Any gathering, even those intended to be peaceful, could escalate and turn violent.  

 

Actions to Take: 

• Avoid areas around protests and demonstrations. 

• Avoid crowds. 

• Keep a low profile. 

• Be aware of your surroundings. 

• Monitor local media for updates. 

• Enroll in theSmart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive alerts.
