In light of last night’s tragic event in Djerba, the Embassy takes the opportunity to reiterate our security guidance below:
We encourage you to review the Department of State travel advisory for Tunisia, which recommends that U.S. citizens avoid demonstrations and crowds, monitor local media for breaking events, and be prepared to adjust travel plans. We also encourage you to review the security and health sections of our country information page.
While we are not aware of specific, credible threats against U.S. citizens in Tunisia at this time, travelers to and in Tunisia are urged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive Alerts and to make it easier to locate you in an emergency.
Actions to take:
- Monitor local media for updates
- Be aware of your surroundings
- Keep a low profile.
- Stay alert in locations frequented by tourists/Westerners.
- Review your personal security plans.
- Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive Alerts and make it easier to locate you in an emergency.
