Weather Alert: Countrywide (Trinidad and Tobago), Tropical Storm Watch for Hurricane Beryl

Emergency Weather Alert for U.S. Citizens – Hurricane Beryl

June 30, 2024

Location: Tobago

Event: The U.S. Embassy Port of Spain alerts U.S. citizens that a Hurricane Warning has been issued for Tobago. This means there is a higher potential for tropical storm conditions, including sustained winds of 63-118 km/h.  While Trinidad is not currently under a Tropical Storm Watch, there is a high probability that Trinidad will experience heavy rainfall and flooding beginning late Sunday and continuing through Monday.  Current forecasts indicate that Hurricane Beryl will pass just north of Trinidad.  However, Beryl’s path could change quickly over the next 24 hours resulting in the possibility of a Tropical Storm Watch being issued for Trinidad.

We advise U.S. citizens to monitor local and regional emergency management organizations for updates on the situation and for information on emergency preparedness, including Public Warning | Trinidad & Tobago Meteorological Service (metoffice.gov.tt) .

U.S. Embassy Port of Spain places a high priority on the safety and preparedness of U.S. citizens during the hurricane season. Please refer to our earlier notice regarding safety during hurricane season here

The U.S. Embassy Port of Spain is closely monitoring this situation and strongly encourages U.S. citizens in the Eastern Caribbean to do so as well.  Please share this message with other U.S. citizens who might not have received it.
