Health Alert: Togo, Confirmed cases

Event:  The Togo Ministry of Health confirmed twelve cases of COVID-19 in Togo.

 

The Department of State has issued a Global Level 4 Health Advisory for COVID-19.  We are not aware of any current restrictions by the government of Togo on departing or transit travelers to the United States.  Travelers should be prepared for travel restrictions to be put into effect with little or no advance notice. U.S. citizens who are considering returning to the United States are urged to work with their airlines to make travel arrangements while flights are still available.  Travelers should check the Department of Homeland Security’s website on the latest travel restrictions to the United States. 

 

The Government of Togo has implemented measures to limit the spread of COVID-19: 

·        The closure for two weeks, starting this Friday, March 20, at midnight of all Togo land borders to travelers.  This measure does not apply to the movement of goods.

·         The closure of some cities including Lome, Tsevie, Kpalime and Sokode, from Saturday, March 21, at 6 AM, with strict controls at the entrances to Tsevie on the national road N1, as well as the tolls of Aneho on national road N2 and Amoussou-Cope on national road N5.

·         The prohibition until further order of the attendance by any person of the beach all along the coast.

·         The closure for one month of places of worship, churches and mosques, starting from Saturday, March 21, at 6 AM.

·         The immediate closure of all public, private and denominational, primary, secondary and university schools for a period of three weeks.

·         Funerals and burials shall not be attended by more than 15 people.

·         All vendors in the markets will be required to wear protective masks.

·         Mass cultural and sports activities are suspended until further notice.

·         The immediate closure of discotheques all over the country.
