Health/Security Alert – U.S. Embassy Lomé, Togo (26 January 2022)
Location: Togo, countrywide
Event: Multiple Americans have reported being approached outside of COVID testing facilities or in the airport by people offering services to assist with testing, and in some cases these individuals directly offered to obtain negative COVID results for travelers. AVOID THESE INDIVIDUALS and DO NOT ATTEMPT to falsify COVID testing documentation, or you will likely face severe repercussions, including fines and prison time, from Togolese authorities, who can locate tests from batch numbers in their systems.
COVID test results are automatically shared electronically with Togolese health and immigration officials. If you present manipulated test results while attempting to leave the country, Togolese authorities WILL ARREST YOU.
The Government of Togo only recognizes COVID tests performed at one of two locations:
1) Airport of Lomé (+228 22 23 60 60)
2) INH (Institut National d’Hygiène) in Lomé (+228 22 21 06 33)
Actions to Take:
If you plan to depart Togo:
· Register and pay for your departure COVID test at https://voyage.gouv.tg/?language=en. The departure test costs 25,000 XOF (roughly $43 USD).
· Print out your receipt and bring it with you to the testing facility.
· If you are requesting an expedited test at INH, you will have to pay an additional 10,000 XOF (roughly $17 USD) at the testing site. Ask for a receipt for the expedite fee.
