Weather Alert: Timor-Leste, Rainy season and La Niña may pose security risks

Event:  Timor-Leste may experience above-average rainfall during the current rainy season and La Niña event.  Potential dangers include flooding, landslides, damaged structures, and prolonged electrical, communication, and transportation disruptions. 

Actions to Take: 

• Prepare emergency-response plans using the tools available at https://www.ready.gov/.
• Monitor local media and meteorological sources for updates.
• Register in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program(STEP) to receive safety updates.  
• Have enough drinking water, food, and other supplies available.
• Have evacuation plans that do not rely on U.S. government assistance.  U.S. citizens are encouraged to read the webpage on What the Department of State Can and Can’t Do in a Crisis.
• Notify friends and family of your safety.
