Security Alert: Spain, Widespread Power Outages

Location:  Spain

Event:  Spain is currently experiencing a widespread power outage as of today, April 28, 2025. This outage may affect transportation systems and communications networks throughout the country.

American Citizens Services operations will continue at the Embassy in Madrid and Consulate General Barcelona. The Consular Agencies in Valencia, Seville, and Fuengirola (Malaga) may be closed on April 29 if power is not restored by 8:00 a.m. The Consular Agencies in Palma de Mallorca (Balearic Islands) and Las Palmas (Canary Islands) are operating as normal.

Actions to Take: 

  • Exercise caution when traveling, as traffic signals and public transport services may be disrupted.
  • Monitor local radio and tv for updates, where coverage is available. TVE1 and Antena 3 are open air television stations reporting on the outage. Radio Nacional Espana is available on various frequencies throughout the country.
  • Follow the instructions of local authorities.
  • If you are able, notify your loved ones to let them know that you are okay.
