Event: Today, the United States imposed financial sanctions on the Governor of Unity State and the Commissioners of Koch and Mayendit Counties for their connection to serious human rights abuses in Leer County, Unity State. These officials are responsible for threatening the peace, security, or stability of South Sudan by engaging in conduct that constituted serious abuses or violations of human rights or violations of international humanitarian law. The Embassy will continue to review the security situation and will provide additional information as appropriate.
