OSAC Bureau of Diplomatic Security U.S. Department of State
Event: The U.S. Embassy in South Sudan is further reducing to minimal staffing for U.S. personnel in Juba due to continued security threats in South Sudan. As advised on Travel.State.Gov, South Sudan is a level 4 do not travel country and we urge U.S. citizens currently in South Sudan to consider departing via commercial means while they are available.
We recommend that U.S. citizens who choose not to depart prepare contingency plans for emergency situations and be prepared to shelter in place should the situation deteriorate further.
The U.S. Embassy in South Sudan reminds U.S. citizens to ensure that their U.S. passports and passports of their family members are up to date and have more than 6 months validity. Appointments for passport renewals at U.S. Embassy Juba can be made here. If you have not yet documented your child, please follow the steps found here.
