Demonstration Alert: U.S. Consulate General Johannesburg, South Africa (August 29, 2025)

Location

:  Sandton, Johannesburg

Event:  There is a planned demonstration at the U.S. Consulate General in Johannesburg on Saturday, August 30, from 1000 to 1300 hours.  Due to the demonstration, there may be a police presence around the Consulate starting at 0900, and there might be traffic delays around the Consulate.

Actions to Take:

  • Avoid crowds and demonstrations.
  • Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
  • Comply with local regulations.
  • Carry proper identification, including a U.S. passport.
  • Monitor local media for updates.
  • Plan alternative routes.
