Alert: Portugal, Airport Strikes Announced Through September 1

The U.S. Embassy in Lisbon informs U.S. Citizens in Portugal that the Metal and Allied Industries Union (SIMA) has announced a labor strike from July 25th through September 1st.   This strike may cause disruptions to travel and affect operations at all major Portuguese airports.

Strike schedule:

July:

Friday, July 25 to Monday, July 28.

August:

Friday, August 8-Monday, August 11

Friday, August 15-Monday, August 18

Friday, August 22-Monday, August 25

Friday, August 29-Monday, September 1

Actions to take:

-Confirm your flight status with the airline, including on the day of travel.

– Allow sufficient time to account for possible delays at check-in and security.

– Be prepared to wait in long lines and expect possible baggage delays.

-Monitor the local media for the latest information.
