Location: Lima and locations throughout Peru
Event: Protests on Pension Law Reforms (September 14, 2025)
Demonstrations were held in central Lima and in other cities around Peru on Saturday, September 13, 2025 related to pension reforms. Protests are likely to continue in the coming days in Lima at Plaza San Martin, Av. Abancay, and routes near Peru’s Congress. Additional demonstrations may take place in other areas in Lima and around Peru.
U.S. citizens are advised to avoid areas where demonstrations commonly take place, such as Lima's Plaza Dos de Mayo, Plaza San Martin, Paseo de los Heroes Navales, routes toward the Congress of the Republic, city squares, government buildings, etc. Expect heavy traffic conditions and a heightened security presence in central Lima.
Actions to take:
· Avoid crowds and demonstrations.
· Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
· Do not interfere with or attempt to circumvent roadblocks.
· Follow instructions from the Peruvian National Police, Peruvian Armed Forces, and local authorities.
· Monitor local media for updates.
