Location: Lima and Callao, Peru
Event: Weekend Demonstrations and Transportation Strike
Members of “Generation Z,” civil society organizations, and transportation unions have announced demonstrations and a 48-hour transportation strike on September 27 and 28, 2025 to protest insecurity and government policies. The strike may affect many forms of transportation including buses, minibuses, taxis, and moto taxis. Large gatherings are expected in central Lima, particularly around Plaza San Martín, Paseo De Los Héroes Navales, Congress, the Presidential Palace, and along main avenues.
U.S. citizens are advised to avoid the areas where demonstrations are planned or commonly take place. Additional demonstrations may occur in other areas in Lima and around Peru with little notice. Expect heavy traffic conditions and a heightened security presence. Demonstrations can escalate into violence. Please monitor local media and Peruvian government sources for information.
Actions to take:
· Avoid demonstrations or roadblocks.
· Exercise caution if in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
· Exercise vigilance when using public transportation.
· Follow instructions from the Peruvian National Police, Peruvian Armed Forces, and local authorities.
· Monitor local media for updates.
