Security Alert – U. S. Embassy Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea (January 10, 2024)

Location: Harbour City, Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea

Event: Shots have been fired near the embassy compound associated with reports of Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) efforts to disperse groups of looters.

U.S. government personnel are advised to shelter in place until further notice.

Actions to Take:

• Avoid the areas of the demonstrations.
• Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
• Monitor local media for updates.
• Keep a low profile.
• Keep your cellphone charged.
