Security Alert: Pakistan, U.S. Embassy and consulates in Pakistan have returned to their normal security and operating posture, May 12

Event:  U.S. Embassy and Consulate Operations

 

Following the May 10 announcement of a ceasefire between Pakistan and India, the U.S. Embassy and consulates in Pakistan have returned to their normal security and operating posture.  The United States continues to closely monitor the situation and encourages U.S. citizens to remain vigilant.

 

Pakistan has reopened its airspace, and many commercial flights have resumed.  U.S. citizen travelers should contact their airlines and check flight status at the airport links below:

The U.S. Department of State reminds U.S. citizens of the standing “Do Not Travel” advisory against all travel to areas near the India-Pakistan border and the Line of Control due to the potential for armed conflict.  The Department also urges travelers to reconsider travel to Pakistan more broadly under the long-standing “Reconsider Travel” advisory.

 

The U.S. Embassy will send updates as needed through our message system.  Please ensure that you are enrolled in Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) .

  • Monitor local media and remain vigilant.
  • Review your personal security plan.
  • Keep a low profile and be aware of your surroundings.
  • Carry identification and cooperate with authorities.
  • Review the Country Security Report  for Pakistan.
