Security Alert: September 2, 2025 – Mission Nigeria

Location: Abuja, Nigeria

Event:   Avoid unnecessary travel to Nigerian military and government facilities

As a reminder, due to continued security concerns, U.S. Mission Nigeria reminds U.S. citizens that all U.S. Mission employees are only permitted to visit Nigerian military sites or other government venues in Abuja for approved official travel at this time.

Actions to Take: 

  • Stay alert in public places, with particular attention to location and venues where Westerners, expatriates, and government officials frequent.
  • Avoid large gatherings and consider limiting unnecessary travel.
  • Vary travel routes and times to reduce predictability.
  • Familiarize yourself with emergency exits when you enter buildings.
  • Review your personal security plans.
