Event: Islamic Movement in Nigeria Protests
The U.S. Embassy in Abuja informs U.S. citizens that the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) is expected to protest today following Friday prayers in Abuja and other cities in Nigeria. IMN activities have, in the past, resulted in physical altercations, roadblocks, and traffic congestion.
Possible Locations may include, but are not limited to: Fouad Lababidi Mosque, National Mosque on Constitution Avenue, Eagle Square and Unity Fountain on Shehu Shagari Way, Banex Plaza, and Berger Junction in Abuja.
Actions to Take:
- Avoid areas where protests are taking place.
- Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
- Monitor local media for updates.
- Be aware of your surroundings.
- Review your personal security plans and keep your cell phone charged in case of emergency.
- Carry proper identification.
- Stay alert, including at shopping centers, movie theaters, and places of worship.
- Familiarize yourself with emergency exits and egresses when you enter buildings.
- Vary travel routes and times to reduce predictability.
