The National Hurricane Center is tracking the development of a tropical storm forming in the southwestern Caribbean Sea that will strike Nicaragua. This storm is expected to become Hurricane Julia by Saturday night as it approaches the coast of Nicaragua. It is projected to bring heavy rain to Nicaragua (10-16 inches) starting late Saturday night, October 8 into early morning Sunday, October 9. The weather system could cause floods or landslides in affected areas, particularly in light of recent heavy rain throughout the country.

- All U.S. citizens should ensure that they have adequate food, water, fuel, and prescription medications on hand at all times as part of their standard emergency preparedness plan.
