Weather Alert for U.S. Citizens: Tropical Storm Sara Nears Nicaragua (November 14, 2024)

 

Location: Throughout Nicaragua

Event: The National Hurricane Center is tracking the progress of Tropical Storm Sara in the southwestern Caribbean Sea.  The government of Nicaragua has issued a tropical storm watch for the northeastern part of the country, including along the border with Honduras to Puerto Cabezas.  Tropical Storm Sara is projected to strengthen and bring heavy rains throughout Nicaragua starting Friday, November 15 and continue into next week, as it moves northward.  The weather system could cause life-threatening floods or landslides in affected areas due to heavy rain.  Roads may become impassible and infrastructure and services throughout the country may be impacted.

Actions to Take:

  • Monitor the progress of this weather system because additional watches or warnings could be issued.
  • Charge your electronic devices in advance of the storm.
  • All U.S. citizens should ensure that they have adequate food, water, fuel, and prescription medications on hand at all times as part of their standard personal emergency preparedness plan.
