Demonstration Alert – U.S. Consulate General Amsterdam, Netherlands

Location: A12 Highway, near the Malieveld in The Hague
Event: Blockade of the A12 highway (Utrechtsebaan) near the Malieveld in The Hague starting at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 6. The group Extinction Rebellion is attempting to mobilize 2,000 people. Similar protests in February and April of this year stopped traffic for hours, resulted in 1000 plus people arrested, and the use of water cannons by riot police to clear protesters from the highway. All U.S. government personnel have been advised to avoid the area.
Actions to Take:
- Avoid the area of the demonstration.
- Be aware of your surroundings.
- Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
- Keep a low profile.
- Monitor local media for updates.
