Security Alert: Kathmandu (Nepal), Nepali Media Reporting Demonstrations Expected to Take Place in Kathmandu on November 23

Location: Kathmandu and all 77 Districts in Nepal 

 

Event: The U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu advises U.S. citizens that Nepali media is reporting that demonstrations are expected to take place in Kathmandu on November 23, 2023, and smaller rallies are expected in the rest of the country. Past demonstrations have resulted in traffic disruptions in central Kathmandu and the use of non-lethal crowd control measures by Nepal Police.  The demonstrations are expected to be held in the Balkhu and Tinkune areas of Southern Kathmandu, however, as with any demonstration, the locations may change or migrate outside these areas.  The demonstrations are expected to begin around 11am and last until 5pm but may start or end outside of these hours.  

 

Actions to Take: 

·         Avoid the areas of the demonstrations. 

·         Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings. 

·         Be aware of your surroundings 

·         Keep a low profile 

·         Review your personal security plans 

·         Monitor local media for updates
