Security Alert: Rangoon (Burma (Myanmar)), Pro-regime Rally Will be Held on February 1, 2024

Location: Rangoon, Myanmar 

Event:  The U.S. Embassy in Rangoon has learned a pro-regime rally will be held from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm on February 1, 2024, at Mahabandoola Park, Kayuktada Township in which an estimated 8,000 people will participate.  Regime supporters plan to gather at Thamada Cinema and march on Sule Pagoda Road to Mahabandoola Park.  The rally is expected to disrupt traffic. 

If possible, please avoid the rally route and adopt a heightened sense of situational awareness. 

Today marks three-years since the overthrow of Myanmar’s democratically elected government.  As such, the potential exists for increased anti-regime activity and violence over the next few days.   

Actions to Take: 

• Avoid large public gatherings. 
• Maintain constant awareness of your surroundings. 

• Pay attention to changes to security in your areas as well as your ability to communicate. 
• Regularly monitor local and international news and social media news channels.
