Location: Coastal areas of southern Cabo Delgado and northern Nampula and Provinces, including the cities of Pemba, Nacala, and Nampula.
- Cabo Delgado Province: Districts of Mecufi, Metuge, Ancuabe, Meluco, Ilha do Ibo, Quissanga, and Pemba City
- Nampula Province: Memba, Nacala, Nacala Velha, Mossuril, Mongicual, Ilha de Mozambique, Monapo, Meconta, Nacaroa, Erati, and the City of Nampula.
Event: Cyclone Chido is approaching the coast of Mozambique as a category-three cyclone. It is forecasted to make landfall around the provincial boundary between Cabo Delgado and Nampula Provinces on the evening of December 14 with dangerous storm tides, high winds, heavy rainfall, and possible flooding in low-lying areas. There is a strong possibility of damage to infrastructure such as roads, bridges, water and electrical services.
U.S. Government personnel are advised to avoid these areas except for emergency situations.
Actions to Take:
- Avoid coastal areas in southern Cabo Delgado and northern Nampula Provinces, including the cities of Pemba and Nacala.
- Make contingency plans to leave these areas.
- Have travel documents up to date and easily accessible.
- Monitor local media for updates.
- Review your personal security plans.
