The U.S. Embassy expects nation-wide strikes and protests between Monday, January 13, and Wednesday, January 15 in opposition to the inauguration of a new government after disputed elections. Police may fire tear gas, rubber bullets and live ammunition to disperse crowds. Major and minor roads within Maputo, including those to Maputo International Airport, may be temporarily blocked by protesters and police. Temporary closures are possible at all land border crossings.
The U.S. Embassy will remain open for U.S. citizen services.
