Location: Casablanca, Morocco
Event:
Demonstrations are expected to take place in Casablanca on April 18 beginning at 7:00 pm at Casa Port and on April 20 beginning at 5:30 pm between United Nations Square (Place Marechal) and Casa Port. Protests are possible in typical gathering places in other major cities. Though protests in Morocco are normally peaceful, these events may have large turnouts and crowds may be unpredictable. Heavy traffic and street closures could result in congestion and delays in the areas of the largest gatherings. Security services may try to prevent large gatherings, creating the potential for more dangerous situations. U.S. government personnel are advised to avoid those areas during the late afternoon and evening hours.
Actions to take:
- Be aware of traffic disruptions due to street closures.
- Avoid the area of the anticipated protests.
- Monitor local media for updates.
- Be aware of your surroundings.
- Avoid large crowds.
- Keep a low profile.
- Carry proper identification.
- Keep doors locked and windows closed if you must drive through crowds.
- Use caution when walking or driving at night.
- Follow instructions of security personnel.
