Weather Alert: Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia), NEMA Warns That Continuous Rain is Expected All Day

Location: Ulaanbaatar

Event: The National Emergency Management Agency of Mongolia (NEMA) warns that continuous rain is expected all day with levels reaching 20-35 mm.  Wind speed is also expected to reach up to 30 meters per second (over 65 miles per hour), accompanied by continuous, heavy downpours.

Actions to take:

• Stay indoors if possible and stay away from flood prone areas.
• Avoid resting or spending time near rivers, lakes, stagnant water or ponds.
• Secure windows and doors.
• Install barriers to prevent water from entering garages and basement floors.
• Build embankments, channels, ditches or barriers to protect homes, properties and drinking water wells from flooding.
• Avoid driving, but if you do drive, use only safe, designated roads and bridges.
• Stay away from high-voltage areas due to strong lightning.
• Unplug electrical appliances due to risk of power surge.
• Prepare for potential power outages by preparing food and water supplies.
