Weather Alert: (Mexico), Dangerous Ocean Conditions Caused by Hurricane Flossie on June 2

Location: Baja California Sur 

 

Event:Hurricane Flossie remains a category 3 hurricane located 505 km SSE of Cabo San Lucas. Large swells generated by Flossie will continue to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions along portions of the coast of southwestern Mexico and the Baja California peninsula during the next few days. On July 1, the Los Cabos Port was closed to smaller vessels until further notice. 

 

Actions to Take: 

  • Avoid entering the ocean or walking on beaches during hazardous conditions.  
  • Heed all warnings from hotel staff and local authorities.  
  • Stay out of areas marked with black flags, which indicate deadly surf conditions.  
  • Be aware if you have planned travel to Pacific coastal areas of Mexico. 
  • Monitor local media for updates, follow directions from local officials, and in case of emergency, call 911. 
  • Monitor theNational Hurricane Centerand theMexican National Meteorological Service(ServicioMeteorológicoNacional) on storm activity and emergency response.
