6 MINUTE READ
September 4, 2025

Event: The National Hurricane Center (NHC) downgraded Hurricane Lorena to a tropical storm and its trajectory has changed, but the center notes that heavy rainfall will have an impact on Sonora through Friday.  State authorities have cancelled school and university classes Thursday and Friday, September 4 and 5, 2025.

Due to the expected heavy rainfall and potential for widespread flooding in and around the city of Hermosillo, the Consulate General Hermosillo will be closed for business on Friday, September 5, 2025.  The office will not be open to receive emergency visitors who may contact the consulate through the channels listed below.

U.S. citizens in the impacted areas should monitor the progress of Tropical Storm Lorena.
