Security Alert: Bamako (Mali), September 20

U.S. Embassy Bamako received reports of sporadic gunfire near the Cite Administrative in ACI 2000 between midnight and 4 a.m.  The situation is reported as calm now, but caution is advised as conditions can change rapidly. 

U. S. Embassy personnel are limiting movements and the embassy is closed today, Friday, September 20.

The embassy will be closed Monday September 23 for a national day in observance of the Baptism of the Prophet and Malian Independence Day. 

Actions to take:

 – Monitor local media for updates.

 – Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.

 – Notify friends and family of your safety.

 – Be aware of your surroundings.

  – Review your personal security plans and keep your cell phone charged in case of emergencies.
