A December 4 fire at thewater supply facility in Malé disrupted water supplies to the capital. Resort islands have not been affected. The government is providing waterto the community and working to restore the water facility, but water servicein Male likely will be intermittent over the next three to five days.
Westrongly recommend that U.S. citizens living or traveling in Sri Lanka andthe Republic of Maldives enroll with the U.S. Embassy through the StateDepartment's Smart TravelerEnrollment Program (STEP). STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates, and makes it easier forthe U.S. Embassy to contact you in an emergency. U.S. citizens withoutinternet access may enroll at the Embassy. U.S. citizens traveling abroadshould regularly monitor the U.S. Department ofState Bureau of Consular Affairs website, where the current Worldwide Caution, Travel Warnings, Travel Alerts, and Country SpecificInformation can befound.
