Demonstration Alert: Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Planned Demonstrations Near U.S. Embassy Kuala Lumpur – October 11 and October 12, 2024

Subject: Planned Demonstrations Near U.S. Embassy Kuala Lumpur – October 11 and October 12, 2024

Location:  Announced gathering points include, but are not limited to the following areas:

  • Tabung Haji building, 201, Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur
  • Menara See Hoy Chan building, 374, Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur
  • KLCC Mosque (As Syakirin Mosque)
  • U.S. Embassy Kuala Lumpur

Event: A demonstration is scheduled on Friday, October 11, at 2:00 p.m. near the front gate of the U.S. Embassy, in front of the Menara See Hoy Chan building. Another demonstration is planned for Saturday, October 12, at 2:00 p.m., starting at the KLCC Mosque (As Syakirin Mosque) and proceeding to a location near the U.S. Embassy front gate.  U.S. citizens should monitor local media for updates. Currently, the U.S. Embassy does not anticipate an interruption to routine services.

Beginning at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on October 11 and October 12, 2024, the U.S. Embassy front entrance will be closed to all pedestrian traffic until the completion of the demonstration.

There is no indication at this time that this demonstration will become violent, but the U.S. Embassy reminds U.S. citizens that the nature of protests can change quickly and with little warning.  Please remember that it is illegal for non-Malaysians to participate in demonstrations in Malaysia.

Actions to Take:

  • Avoid areas where demonstrators have gathered.
  • Monitor local media for updates.
  • Avoid crowds.
  • Avoid demonstrations.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
