During the holiday season, it is important to remember that transnational terrorist organizations and individuals inspired by extremist ideology persist throughout Europe.
Extremists have in the past focused on tourist locations, shopping malls, airports, clubs, restaurants, places of worship, transportation hubs, and other soft targets. All employees should exercise additional vigilance at places of worship, and locations with large crowds. Staff are reminded to follow good personal security practices and to have a plan for possible emergency situations.
Luxembourg is not immune from the types of crime found in every concentrated population center throughout the world.
In addition, the U.S. Embassy is aware of a recent increase in thefts targeting properties, storage units, and parked cars. During the holiday season, when homes and vehicles may be more vulnerable due to travel and increased activity, it is crucial to remain vigilant and adopt additional precautions.
Actions to Take:
-Exercise vigilance at holiday festivals and events, places of worship, and locations with large crowds.
-Be aware of your surroundings.
-Have personal security plans.
-Monitor local media for updates.
-Ensure all doors and windows are closed and locked securely.
-Leave a light or two on in your residence, to give the appearance that it is occupied.
-Ask a friend or neighbor to take in your trash can and retrieve your mail if you go away.
-If traveling check U.S. embassy or consulate websites in your destination country for recent security messages.
