Security Alert: U.S. Embassy Vilnius, Lithuania (May 6, 2024)
Location: Vilnius - Virsuliskes and Paneriai neighborhoods, and Kaunas - Palemonas neighborhood, Lithuania.
Events: The Lithuanian government and military have announced that they plan to organize civil defense drills across the country from May 1-9, 2024 as part of the “Thunderstorm 2024” exercises. Drills in the Virsuliskes and Paneriai neighborhoods of Vilnius and in the Palemonas neighborhood of Kaunas will take place from 10:00 p.m. on May 7 to 5:00 a.m. on May 8, 2024. According to the government, these drills will include a simulated curfew, vehicle checkpoints, and document checks. Simulated sound, smoke, and concussive grenades may be used. · Carry proper identification, including a U.S. passport with valid proof of immigration status.
