Event: Latvia Ends State of Emergency as of April 6 and Eases Some Restrictions. Updated Restrictions from April 7:
Education:
- Pre-schools will continue to operate for children of those who work at the school and children with parents who cannot work remotely and have no childcare options at home
- In municipalities with a 14-day cumulative rate of less than 200 new cases per 100,000 people the following can take place:
– Students in grades 1-6 and grade 12 can return to school.
– Students in grades 7-11 may return to school on rotation basis (classes in the educational institution does not overlap).
– Up to five formal education classes can take place outdoors per week for a class of up to 10 people.
– Up to 10 people may gather outdoors for vocational and informal education classes.
Services
- All stores with a sales area of no more than 7,000 square meters that have a separate entrance and are not located in a shopping center may reopen.
- In shopping malls with a sales area of more than 7000 square meters only grocery and hygiene stores, pharmacies, optical stores, florists, bookstores, and press outlets can be open.
- Small outdoor fairs (up to 20 merchants) are permitted.
- Restaurants may still only provide food and drinks for take away.
Gatherings
- Up to 10 people may gather for marches and pickets outdoors.
- Up to 10 people, but no more than 2 households, may gather for private gatherings outdoors.
- Up to 10 people, but no more than 2 households, may gather for funeral and/or baptism ceremonies.
Travel
- Non-essential travel from the EU/Schengen zone continues to be banned with limited exceptions including work, study, family reunification, medical treatment, transit, return to home country, funerals, or accompanying a minor.
- Travelers must include the purpose of travel when registering at covidpass.lv and be ready to present justification documents upon arrival to the State Police or Border Guards.
- Travelers must present a negative PCR test result done within the previous 72 hours.
- Travelers arriving from outside of the EU/Schengen zone will be required to take a COVID-19 test upon arrival at their own expense. If the result is positive, the traveler must pay for self-isolation at one of the tourist accommodations specified by the Latvian Investment and Development Agency.
